Future Horizons

Welcome to Future Horizons, the College of Education website dedicated to the notion that change is constant and that educators must be vigilant as we scan the horizon for new challenges and opportunities. We strive to inform educators about emerging challenges that they will face in a changing world, provide the tools that they will need to meet these challenges, and direct them to resources that can aid their research and teaching.

Future Horizons has been three decades in the making as the passion project of three time Florida State University alumnus Dr. James L. Morrison. Dr. Morrison earned the College of Education Distinguished Alumnus in Postsecondary Systems – University in 2013, and received the College of Education’s highest honor, the Distinguished Educator in 2014. In 2020, Dr. Morrison worked with the College of Education to build the Future Horizons website to continue the work he started as a professor of educational leadership at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

We encourage you to explore the Future Horizons site and share potential opportunities for growth and development. The presentations, workshops and seminars, provide a framework taken from Dr. Morrison’s own work to extend our thinking as an educational community, and the publications included archive thirty years of forward thinking educational research. In addition, we provide a wealth of links in the Resources section to valuable Web data sources that provide historical data and informed discussion related to the future of education.

As noted at the bottom of every page on the Horizon site, you are free to use this material for educational purposes.
